Product Cost Engineer

Hollow core slab production equipment in action at a precast floor slab plant.

We are looking for a Product Cost Engineer for our global manufacturing unit. As a Product Cost Engineer, you will have end to end ownership of how manufacturing costs are understood, challenged, and used to drive smarter pricing, stronger profitability, and better strategic choices.

In this role, your analyses will directly support tendering decisions, manufacturing footprint choices, and long term business strategy. You’ll build and refine manufacturing cost models with a holistic view of total product cost, while tracking actuals to continuously improve accuracy and transparency.

You are trusted to challenge assumptions around labor, productivity, methods, and cost structures, turning data into facts. Working cross functionally and across production units in Finland, India, and China, you gain a global perspective and help shape how cost data is used across the organization.

If you enjoy combining deep analytical work with visible business impact, and you like having the mandate to question, improve, and influence the way things are done, this role offers a unique and rewarding opportunity.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate product cost calculations and cost estimates
  • Estimate and compare manufacturing costs across different production units
  • Analyze estimated versus actual costs and perform variance analyses
  • Support quotation and pricing processes with reliable cost data
  • Develop cost calculation tools and advanced Excel‑based models
  • Report cost data and provide clear, business‑oriented recommendations to management
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Procurement, Engineering, Product Management, and Sales / Tendering
  • Validate and challenge manufacturing hours, methods, and cost structures together with production units

About you

  • Relevant technical education (Technician, Engineer, M.Sc., or similar)
  • Strong practical understanding of mechanical manufacturing and production processes (e.g. welding, steel structures, machining, assembly)
  • Ability to assess realistic manufacturing methods and labor hours based on production knowledge
  • Strong analytical skills and solid Excel proficiency
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Fluency in Finnish and working proficiency in English
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in cross‑functional teams
  • You are a hands‑on, analytical professional who understands manufacturing realities and enjoys working with data, people, and processes.

Key Competencies

  • Experience in cost engineering within the manufacturing industry
  • Background in mechanical or manufacturing environments (e.g. steel structures, welding, equipment manufacturing)
  • Experience in an international manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of ERP systems
  • Experience in project work and change management

What we offer

  • A versatile and evolving expert role in an international organization
  • A genuine opportunity to influence business development and strategic decisions
  • Professional development and career growth opportunities
  • Extended occupational health services and health insurance
  • EPassi benefits and active wellbeing and hobby activities
  • A flexible hybrid work model

The workplace is located in Akaa, Toijala, Finland, near the E12 road and the railway station. You can drive to our office in less than half an hour from both Tampere and Hämeenlinna.
