Precast as a modern building material

Precast is a modern and versatile building material for any type of a building from private villas to affordable housing, commercial centers, industrial buildings or public venues. Basically all structural entities of a building can be built with precast.

A building can be a full precast or partial precast building depending on the local construction conditions, requirements and resources. Both thermal and sound insulation properties of precast are very advanced. Precast concrete piles are a reliable and modern method for sustainable deep foundations as well.

Façades from sandwich to cladding and gray walls

A façade is any face of a building given special architectural treatment, for example through the shape, color, texture, or finish. Sandwich wall is a dominating façade type. It reduces energy consumption for both cooling and heating. The inner concrete layer is 80–150 mm and the outer 70–85 mm. The thermal insulation of 150-220 mm depending on the insulation type guarantees good energy-efficiency. The outer layer of a sandwich panel can have variety of looks, such as brickwork, graphic concrete, polished marble or granite.

A cladding panel, also known as a curtain wall, is the concrete leaf that forms the outermost layer of a façade, and thus fulfills only an enclosing and decorative function. A gray wall is a good option, when searching for a non-decorated precast façade product without insulation. Both cladding panels and gray walls can be attached separately to the structure or they can be self-bearing, and in principle their architectural design is completely free.

Partition and internal walls from Acotec to solid walls

Speedy Acotec-walls are highly suited for areas with a high degree of moisture, such as bathrooms and kitchens, and for areas with high sound insulation requirements, such as hotels. They are proven to work in countries with the strictest of standards and requirements on seismic, moisture and fire resistance. Acotec-walls are fully recyclable non-load bearing walls. They can be produced in 2500-3300 mm length and 600 mm or 2 x 300 mm width. Wall thickness can vary between 68-140 mm. Construction is up to six times faster than traditional brickwork and twice as fast as block work.

Solid walls are usually gray concrete wall elements without insulation layer. Solid panels are mainly used in apartment buildings, houses, hotels and similar structures as boundary walls. Load-bearing solid walls are generally used in combination with hollow-core floors. Other applications are partition walls, stairwells and lift shafts.

Floors with hollow-core, half, ribbed or solid slabs

Hollow-core slabs are pre-stressed floor products with either round or shaped voids, depending on local conditions. Their thickness is 120-500 mm and casting width 1.2–2.4 m. Voids make hollow-core slabs more material-efficient and lighter to handle than solid slabs. Excellent load bearing capacities and longer spans up to even 20 m give more freedom to architectural and structural design.

Half or filigran slabs are usually 50–150 mm thick and 1.2-4 m wide precast products with 2–8 m span. They suit well for buildings with lot of plumbing and holes in the floors. Half slab can have a static reinforcement made by truss grinders, which provide good bonding with the cast topping. Another type of a half slab has a plain surface with lifting loops. The topping of a half slab can be 100-300 mm high and it is casted at construction site. Half slabs can also be pre-stressed.

Ribbed slabs are thin floor products similar to half slabs in their measures and usage. They consist of ribs situated side-by-side, which increases the capacity before topping is cast. Topping for ribbed slabs is always cast at site to achieve a fully load-bearing floor.

Solid slabs are usually 200 mm thick reinforced floor products used only for the shortest spans and for special cases, i.e. balconies. They are fast to install and need no extra cast at site.

Foundations with precast concrete piles

Piles are underground supporting precast products that take on foundation loads of any building type. Precast concrete piles can be produced extremely fast and into any specific length needed in the actual construction site. The daily production can reach even 3 km of ready-to-install precast concrete piles. When combined with the high quality pile joints and hydraulic pile driving, the productivity and durability of foundations solution is on the highest possible level.

Frames with e.g. beams, columns

Beams and columns are precast products used for structural frames, skeletons, in buildings. End products with high load-bearing capacity offer great architectural freedom in a variety of constructions. The frame line is similar to a floor production line but with stronger beds. Thus, it can also be used to manufacture floor products.

Stairs, shafts and other special products

Precast can be produced in almost any shape and size. A typical residential building consists of tens of special precast units, such as stairs, shafts, main entrances, basement walls.
